Export of dairy products increased by 23% in the first half of the year - UFEB
In January-June 2017 the export of dairy products from Ukraine amounted to 63.2 thousand tons, which is 22.8% more than in the same period of last year, the analytical department of the Ukraine Food Export Board (UFEB) reported.
In June, 14.5 thousand tons of dairy products were sold abroad, which is 17.4% more than in May, and 14% higher than in June of last year.
The positive results of the first half of the year aren’t surprising, considering the world trends. The butter and whey provide the growth of exports. At the same time, the dynamics of milk and cream, both condensed and not condensed, and also cultured milk products are negative.
Thus, the export of milk and cream in January-June amounted to 4 thousand tons, which is 10.1% less than in the first half of last year. At the same time, export proceeds amounted to $ 2.6 million, and increased by 10.1%. The main markets were Moldova (with a share of 46.3%, or 1.2 million dollars) and Georgia (26.4%, 693 thousand dollars).
The import of milk and cream amounted to 331 thousand tons in the reporting period, which is 55% more than last year. In monetary terms, this is 537 thousand dollars. Most of all products are imported from Germany (51.5%, 276 thousand dollars).
The export of condensed milk and cream amounted to 23.3 thousand tons, which is 10.7% less than in the first half of 2016. At the same time, the proceeds from the supply of these products abroad increased by 13.7%, to 40.4 million. Most of all they were sold to Kazakhstan (19.7%, 7.9 million dollars) and Bangladesh (10.7%, 4.3 million dollars).
The sales of cultured-milk products abroad for the period under review decreased by 1.6% to 1.5 thousand tons. Revenues from its sale amounted to 1.5 million dollars. The largest deliveries were to Moldova (60.3%, 890 thousand dollars) and Georgia (22.9%, 338 thousand dollars).
At the same time, imports were 35.8% higher than last year, and amounted to 1.7 thousand tons. The main purchases were from Belgium (53%, 1.3 million dollars) and Poland (36.2% %, 894 thousand dollars).
The export of milk whey in January-June this year increased by 50% in comparison with previous year and amounted to 17.9 thousand tons. The main sales markets were China (50.4%, 6.8 million dollars), India (862 thousand dollar, 6.35%) and Malaysia (711 thousand dollars, 5.24%). The milk whey was imported from Portugal (53%, 257 thousand dollars) and Germany (17.32%, 84 thousand dollars). The total volume of imports for the half-year increased by 58.9% and amounted to 518 tons.
The export of butter grew more than 3 times – up to 12.3 thousand tons. It was most sold it in Morocco (18.5%, 8.3 million dollars) and Kazakhstan (12.9%, 5.8 million dollars). The import of butter decreased by 66.5% and amounted to 231 tons.
The export of cheeses also shows an increase. For the analyzed period, 4.1 thousand tons were sold abroad, which is 21.3% more than in 2016. It was delivered to Kazakhstan (50%, 7.1 million dollars) and Moldova (24.25%, 3.5 million dollars). The import of cheeses grew by 33.3% – up to 4,3 thousand tons, most of them were bought in Poland (34.3%, 6.6 million dollars) and Germany (23.79%, 4.6 million dollars).
